Sharing with Friends

Hi! Did you know you can tell how long someone has been on the Internet by watching the emails they send you? If they haven't been on the Net very long they get so excited about the Net Hoaxes they've never seen before and pass them along to everyone. I'm afraid I too was guilty of such behavior years ago. I remember wondering why no one seemed to want to email with me? Duh? It took me a while to realize that it wasn't even E-mail, it was simply junk I was sending my new found friends!!! Yikes!!! Sorry about that guys!

Those new to the Net are unable to recognize the red flags, "FORWARD TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW" and, worse, still don't realize they are sending EVERYONE's address out to spammers!!!! Because they don't know the difference between a "Web" address and a "Home" address they don't send the 'forwards' to the web address. Nope, they send it right to the address you pay for and want to keep HIDDEN!

People are deleting important files from their computer because of getting hoax emails. It really isn't that hard to check to see if they are a hoax-FIRST! Please check these out at truthorfiction.com or Snopes 2 or antivirus.about.com or urban legends

OR

you can also put part of the message or subject with the word 'hoax' in your favorite search engine, even faster! And our friends would soooooo appreciate it.

**************ADDRESS FOR SPAMMERS****************

I hear people complain about spam all the time and yet I continually get emails with 200 addresses in plain site!!! Yikes!!! If I were a spammer or malicious hacker I'd be in my element for sure!!

BCC instructions on a number of services:

BCC means blind carbon copy, it you put all the addresses under BBC instead of To or CC (carbon copy) all the emails will be hidden!!! Here is a page with instructions for your server:

AOL, Outlook, Netscape, Eudora, Yahoo, hotmail, mailcity, MS-Outlook:

RudderBCC

When I receive your email saying *undisclosed-recipients* and I reply, it is going to just the person I am replying to and not the entire email list you originally sent it to. And if I forward it, using BCC not only is your address hidden but so is everyone elses.

WebTV, Juno and PocketMail still can't do BCC so what does this mean?

Anyone sending you mail from these addresses are going to inadvertently send your address to spammers, what are your options:

      1. Ask them to please be careful and try not to send you forwarded emails (if they get huffy that is a plus-they won't send you mail)!
      2. Refuse to open their mail
      3. Have their mail blocked or returned to them
      4. Reply and tell them their "Forward" button has a virus and they shouldn't use it till it gets fixed.

Frankly I suspect that is the only way our addresses will stop being used by spammers and outlaw hackers. Not to mention putting a stop to all the Net hoaxes.

    ********************VIRUSES*************************

    Quick message on Viruses:
Never open a file in email with the extension .exe unless you were expecting the file from someone you know!!! You are executing a file onto your computer and you can bet it is a virus. Before opening any email file ask yourself:

      Do you know the person

Did they say what it is and why they are sending it (check with them anyway just to be sure someone isn't using their address).

Never open 'attachments' (files) from Businesses, even those reputable ones you deal with. First go to their website and see if they have alerts or warnings about hoax or virus emails being circulated using their company names.
If the email sent to you has an attachment and the extension isn't something you recognize then go to the link below and find the extension and it will give you the definition of what that file is:
    Whatis

    **********Real fun**********

I read a page, very nicely done, on viruses, computer advice, bcc, spam and hoaxes. With all the links to check for hoaxes, and then, at the very end of the page they wrote:

Now, the following is just something I had to put in here because it's excellent advise for everyone........ Kids Included
FOR ALL WOMEN, MEN and CHILDREN IN YOUR LIFE

Putting this copy pasted version of an Internet Hoax email on their web page. The email begins telling woman how to protect themselves and was really good actually, however, it included the 'baby crying' hoax in the message. I thought it strange that they didn't at least delete the 'hoax' part of the message. And even stranger that they would inform everyone about Internet Hoaxes and then include a hoax from an email on a web page designed to warn you not to forward them. But, HEY, what do I know!

Please keep my home email address private
