This was actually in my local newspaper in the "Letters to the Editor" section: (I think it was 1999) Mistaken Identity What can I say? Seems that I ordered one of our cities finest off my property, and bless his heart, he left without protest! I'm one of those senior citizens that buys nothing over the phone unless I initiate the call, or at the door....ever. The religious groups and the politicians do leave pamphlets stuck in the fence. I leave a gate unlocked, with a prominent notice, that UPS and PUD meter readers can enter anytime. All others are to call first. He didn't, so when I opened the door to this person, who was dressed completely in black, including very dark sunglasses, holding some papers, and I think a clipboard, my "red flags" started waving. He could have been a pollster or a politician! No badge or identification was showing. I asked if he'd read the note by the gate. Yes? Then go! As I said before, he did. If he had taken off the dark sunglasses, shown a badge or something, I'm sure my reaction would have been different. After all, he was only trying to notify me of a situation in the neighborhood. So my apologies to the (Local) Police Department. I'll try and do better next time you come to call. By the way, are you still looking for my truck that was stolen in 1995? I am!
